Project Vote Smart Mobile Training Center (ak.a. Voters' Speakeasy) is coming to Tacoma! The "Purple Bus" has a movie theater and free wi-fi computer terminals so voters can learn how to defend themselves against self-serving, manipulative claims made by campaigns.

Through the joint efforts of more than 100,000 Democratic and Republican voters working over the last 16 years, Project Vote Smart has completed the nation’s first Voter Self-Defense System. The mobile training center is complete with a movie theater and free wi-fi computer terminals so voters can learn how to defend themselves against self-serving, manipulative claims made by campaigns.

For a little fun, the Project is rolling a 9-foot, American flag ball coast to coast, collecting messages from outraged voters about the abusive behavior of the candidates. Citizens will also have the opportunity to strip a candidate pinned to an enormous wheel, allowing them to see what the candidates really look like.

The League of Women Voters of Tacoma-Pierce County is coordinating with Project Vote Smart for this event. Voter Registration plus information on Ranked Choice Voting in Pierce County and the Top Two Primary in Washington State will be available.

Project Vote Smart is a national library of information on 40,000 candidates for public office at all levels of government. We cover them in five basic categories: biographical background, issue positions, voting records, campaign finances and performance evaluations made by over 100 special interest groups. We do not lobby, support or oppose any candidate and we do not accept financial support from any organization that does.
