Health care fraud costs consumers and Medicare millions of dollars every year.  “Fighting Health Care Fraud and Abuse” will provide the tools for consumers to identify, avoid and report unfair medical charges.  The free workshop will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18 at The Weatherly Inn, 6016 N. Highlands Parkway,Tacoma.

Most health providers are honest, but some intentionally misrepresent or bill Medicare for services that weren't provided.  With the complexity of health care billing, consumers often unwittingly pay for those services needlessly.

When fraud occurs, someone is using you for their criminal scheme to steal health care dollars.  Fraud includes billing for services and equipment not received, charges for filling out claim forms; performing services beyond what is medically necessary; misrepresentation of services billed; accepting referral fees from other providers, and being offered free testing or screening in exchange for your Medicare number.

The workshop is sponsored by Pierce County Aging and Long Term Care, SHIBA (Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors) and The Weatherly Inn.  Please call 253-752-8550 to RSVP.
