The Hunger Walk will take place on Sunday, Oct. 5, starting at First Christian Church in Tacoma. Check-in is at 1 p.m., and the walk starts at 2.  At the completion of the Walk, we have a finish-line party with live music, face painting, great food and other fun activities for people of all ages.

Your support is especially important this year.  Rising food and fuel prices have left many low-income families with little food in their cupboards and on their tables.  Many of these families have turned to emergency food programs to fill the gap in their available food resources. Pierce County food banks have responded to a 19 percent increase in client requests compared to last year. Your participation as a walker, volunteer or sponsor would make a difference in the lives of those hungry families.

The Hunger Walk draws more than 1,000 participants and requires more than 60 volunteers for its production. We have a wide range of volunteer opportunities that include first aid station, water stops, set-up crew, T-shirt sales, clean-up crew, greeters, runners, cotton candy makers, face painters, walkers/counters, equipment supervisor, party crew/table volunteers, route safety monitors and apples/cookies disbursers and parking attendants.
