Ron Magden, Tacoma historian, will discuss "Civil Liberties in Time of War" at the first program meeting of the season.

The local chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union meets every first Wednesday.  There is ample on-street parking and good bus service to the Library.

Ronald Magden, Ph.D., variously described as "Tacoma historian," "labor historian," "maritime historian," "retired Tacoma Community College professor," and "expert on West Coast port matters" was an original faculty member at Tacoma Community College. The author of Furusato: Tacoma-Pierce County Japanese, 1888-1977, he also wrote three books on maritime history: A History of Seattle Waterfront Workers, The Working Longshoreman, and The Working Waterfront: The History of Tacoma’s Ships and Men.  Most recently, he presented a paper on  “The Lettuce King of Fife” at the Pacific Northwest Historian Guild's Annual Conference in March.
