Annual Banquet Looks Upward And Outward, Tahoma Audubon Hands Out Awards To Environmental Champions

When: Friday, February 22nd – Auction and social at 5:30pm with dinner at7:00 pm

Where: Tacoma Elks Lodge, 1965 S. Union Ave., Tacoma, WA 

Keynote speaker: Dr. Nalini Nadkarni with “Looking Upward and Outward: A View of the Pacific Flyway from the Forest Canopy.”  Dr. Nadkarni is a member of the faculty of The Evergreen State College and President of the International Canopy Network.  She has conducted research in Costa Rica and the Olympic National Park since 1980 and her work has been featured in numerous articles and television programs.

Community Service Awards will be presented to:

  • Pierce County Executive John Ladenburg for his accomplishments in protecting and enhancing the environment during his term in office.
  • Laurie Brauneis of Save our Shorelines, for bringing voice to the concerns over geoduck farming on the shorelines of Pierce County.
  • Chapter members Dixie Harris and Molly Hukari are recipients of this year’s distinguished service awards for their contributions to the success of Tahoma Audubon.
  • The Legacy award for lifetime dedication to the Audubon cause will be awarded to Sally Sloat, former President, board member and long time administrative chair.
     

New Board Members Elected

The Tahoma Audubon Board of Directors will be welcoming six new members; Elizabeth Rando Beer, Melissa Paulson, Ione Clagett, Darby Veeck, Peggy Kopf and Kathleen Nelson.

Tickets are $25 or $35 including a $10 donation for Audubon programs.  All tickets include dinner, program and gratuity.
